Susan
Cardinal Creator/Director/Research:
Susan Cardinal is an award-winning
documentary maker. Her various roles as: journalist, director, story
editor, narrator and teacher highlight an impressive career that started
with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Radio service on British
Columbia's north coast, and has taken Susan around the world.
As Creator and a Writer & Director
for The Thirsty
Traveler, Susan brings a love
of travel and people plus a wealth of documentary experience to The
Thirsty Traveler. This half-hour
television series is produced by The Grasslands Entertainment Group
Ltd. for Food Network Canada and Food Network USA. Susan is also launching
into production with The Snow Eater, a one-hour documentary for the
Discovery Channel on Alberta's phenomenal Chinook wind. This fall
will mark the premiere of her two-hour special, God's Explorers, on
History Television. It's about the controversial mission of the Catholic
missionaries, the Oblates of Mary Immaculate among the Dene in the
Northwest Territories.
In 1999, Susan received two nominations
for On The Edge: The Nature of Risk from the Alberta Motion Picture
Industries Association (26th Annual AMPIA Awards) for Best Documentary
and Best Female Host. On The Edge: The Nature of Risk - first broadcast
on the Discovery Channel in prime time - is a co-production with the
National Film Board of Canada.
Susan is a past Board Member of Women in
Film and Television - Alberta. She served for four years on the Advisory
Committee for the Calgary Institute for the Humanities at the University
of Calgary.
